On Sunday 17 September, the Contemporary Cypriot Film Festival was held at the MataderoMadrid cultural centre, where three short films and a feature film were screened.
At the presentation, the ambassador of Cyprus, Helena Mina, pointed out that “the direct and visual approach of cinema makes it a very powerful tool of cultural diplomacy. A film can travel across borders and time, it unites societies and conveys universal messages. Today, through the frames of Cypriot films, our aim is to make Cyprus known in Spain. And this is one of our objectives at the Embassy of Cyprus, that is, to bring the two countries closer through culture”.
Accompanying the Cypriot ambassador at the presentation was the Cultural Officer for Film Affairs of the Vice-Ministry of Culture of the European country, Marios Psaras, and at the end of the screenings, the director of the film Pause, Tonia Mishiali, held a talk with the audience.
The short films to be screened were the documentary I don’t like the wind, I like the sun, directed by Tonia Mishiali; Sunday, by Dinos Gregoriou, and the drama A summer place, directed by Alexandra Matheou.
