Last Thursday, Casa Árabe presented the exhibition Tadafuq-Fluir, which shows the work of 15 contemporary Palestinian artists from Gaza, the West Bank and Jerusalem.
Karim Hauser, Casa Árabe’s coordinator of Culture and International Relations, took the floor and pointed out that “this exhibition gives access to fifteen perspectives, fifteen Palestinian voices, not only in Gaza but also in the West Bank and Jerusalem, and also in the Diaspora”.
For her part, the Director General of the diplomatic cultural centre, Irene Lozano, highlighted the role played by local Palestinian institutions in bringing this exhibition to fruition. “Casa Árabe had never held an exhibition on Palestinian artists only because of the intrinsic value of art, beyond political considerations,” she said.
“There are the national problems, the collective problems, but there are also the problems of any person that have to do with mental health, uprooting, of course with the occupation, resistance, and the very way in which this exhibition is mounted, with this somewhat rough austerity, tries to reproduce how the artists who make up this exhibition live there”, concluded Irene Lozano.
Tadafuq (Flow) refers to a constant flow of creativity emanating from a new generation of Palestinian artists. This initiative also seeks to generate stimuli and connections between fragmented geopolitical compartments inside and outside Palestine, which are unable to communicate properly due to the blockade they have suffered for decades. This project seeks to overcome physical borders and arbitrary checkpoints through artistic expression.
