Ambassador Sarmila PaThe Diplomatrajuli Dhakal, expressed her aim to “further deepen our diplomatic relations with Spain” during her reception in Madrid on Wednesday on the occasion of Nepal’s National and Constitutional Day.
“Our foreign relations are growing stronger, especially with Spain, where, since I started my mission as ambassador, we have developed more than 15 events and programmes” of bilateral promotion and collaboration, with “special attention to the development of economic relations, trade, tourism, investment, culture, scientific collaboration and sports”.
He also stressed his satisfaction at the celebration of the 55th anniversary of the establishment of relations with Spain at the Madrid racecourse in May this year. An event which, he said, shows the progress of relations between the two countries. Moreover, “both ministries have been holding regular meetings, focusing on improving our relations in all fields,” said Sarmila Parajuli before underlining that in the field of tourism, Spain is among the top seven countries sending travellers to Nepal.
After underlining that the Constitution adopted in 2015 is “our guide and guarantee of Nepal’s commitment to human rights, equal rights and opportunities for all in an inclusive Nepal” whose “commitments to peace and democracy are our core values”.
The ambassador underlined that Nepal “maintains an independent foreign policy, active in international cooperation, with respect for the UN Charter”.
She also had words for the Nepalese community in Spain, which she said “is well adapted to Spain where it is appreciated and contributes to promoting and preserving our rich cultural heritage”. He ended his speech in Spanish by stating that “Spaniards will always have a place in my heart”.
The reception was attended by numerous Spanish and foreign diplomats, including the ambassadors of Vietnam, Oman, Malaysia, Nicaragua, Estonia, Poland and Luxembourg.
