Organised by the Embassy of Bolivia and the Fundación Flades, the String Orchestra of the Santa Ana de Velasco School of Music from eastern Bolivia, which is touring Spain from 7 to 23 September 2023, will perform tomorrow Saturday at 7 p.m. in the Gabriela Mistral amphitheatre of Casa de América. This orchestra was born in 1998 as part of the Integral Rehabilitation Plan of Santa Ana de Velasco, the former Jesuit reduction of Chiquito. Since its beginnings, it has been made up of children and young people and has participated in the Festival de Música Renacentista y Barroca Americana Misiones de Chiquitos.
The Orchestra plays a vital role in the human development of Santa Ana de Velasco: it is the central axis of youth culture, contributes to the construction of the hospital of Santa Ana de Velasco and has helped to make the school baccalaureate in the community a reality.
Currently, the Orchestra is part of the Integral Chiquitanía Project of the Latin American Foundation for Development FLADES, which works with the communities of Santa Ana de Velasco seeking the sustainability of its inhabitants through the cultivation of superfoods, and allocating 15% of the profits to the maintenance of the Santa Ana de Velasco Music School, which today has 226 orchestra students and 31 choir students.
