On the 50th anniversary of the coup d’état in Chile, the journalist and historian Mario Amorós gives a detailed account of the political career of President Allende and draws a human portrait of the man who was the country’s president until the coup d’état of 11 September 1973, which transformed him into a myth and continues to be a point of reference so many years later.
In this book, the author not only recounts the historical facts, but also describes the figure of Allende, his political and human trajectory. Fifty years after the events that marked a before and after in the history of the country, this biography uncovers his family roots and allows the reader to get to know the boy who, as the book points out, was introduced to emancipatory ideas by an anarchist carpenter, At the same time, we discover the doctor with a profound social vocation who, from 1933, participated in the founding and expansion of the Socialist Party, the Minister of Health of the Popular Front, the deputy and senator who was in the political front line for 25 years and who was a key figure in socialism and the Latin American left, with a projection that is still relevant today.
