The Embassy of Paraguay and Casa de América present the programme Arami Ullón, otras narrativas, dedicated to this outstanding Paraguayan director, scriptwriter and producer.
This special event, organised with the support of DOCMA-Spanish Documentary Film Association, will take place in Casa América’s Sala Iberia on Tuesday 12th and Thursday 14th September at 6.30pm, in the presence of the director.
In both sessions, after the screenings, there will be colloquiums moderated by the filmmaker, programmer and member of the DOCMA team, David Varela (Tuesday 12th), and the director and scriptwriter Lola Mayo (Thursday 14th).
These meetings aim to discuss Ullón’s work and his creative processes from different perspectives. His non-traditional narratives, as well as the investigation of language in his works, make his cinema a singular experience. On the other hand, it also aims to give visibility to the work of women filmmakers, as well as the less developed cinematographies of the region, in this case Paraguay.
The programme begins on Tuesday 12 September with the screening of Apenas el sol (2020). This feature-length documentary opened the prestigious International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam (IDFA), the most important of its kind in the world, in the 2020 edition. It also represented Paraguay at the GOYA and Oscar awards (2016). It has also received fifteen international awards, including the FIPRESCI (Fédération Internationale de la Presse Cinématographique). On Thursday 14, his first feature film, El tiempo nublado (2014), will be screened. The film had its international premiere at Visions du Réel (2014 – Switzerland), where it won the Regards Neufs award for best debut feature. It represented Paraguay at the Goya Awards (2016). It was also the first Paraguayan nomination for the Oscars in the 2016 edition.
Likewise, the Embassy of Paraguay will hold a meeting called In Conversation with Arami Ullón at its headquarters in Madrid (Calle Dr. Fleming, 3) on 13 September at 19:00. The talk will be moderated by the Paraguayan producer living in Spain, Ana Arza, who will propose a journey through Ullón’s work by means of fragments of his feature films, and in discussion with the audience present. The colloquium will be free of charge. Those interested are asked to confirm their attendance in advance by sending an email to confirmaciones@embajadadelparaguay.com.
