The Diplomat
The Government of Panama has dismissed its ambassador in Madrid, Allen Jackson Sellers, one year after his appointment, according to The Diplomat.
Sellers, who presented Letters of Credence before the King on September 23 of last year, after having spent a few months as Chargé d’Affaires, was chosen as ambassador by the former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Panama, Erika Mouynes, and maintained a great activity in our country.
The handover of Mouynes by Janaina Tewaney at the head of de Foreign Ministry, which took place in October of last year, has led to a series of handovers in Panamanian Embassies in different countries, including Spain, in recent weeks.
Panama is currently in a pre-electoral period, since there will be general elections on May 5, 2024, in which the replacement for the current president, Laureano Cortizo, will be elected. This circumstance could cause the appointment of a new ambassador to Spain to be delayed, although it cannot be ruled out that it occurs.
Meanwhile, the Embassy of Panama in Madrid has been left in charge of the Minister Counselor, Anayansi Rodríguez, who acts as Chargé d’affairs ad interim.
