The Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, has held a meeting with his Omani counterpart, Badr Albusaidi, on the sidelines of the G-20 Summit in New Delhi.
In his ‘X’ account, Albares described the meeting as ‘productive’ and said that they had discussed bilateral relations and relations between the European Union and the Gulf Cooperation Council, during the six months of the Spanish Presidency.
Albares also said that they had discussed “progress on the agreement on the transfer of sentenced persons“.
The two ministers had already discussed this issue in a telephone conversation they held last April, in an attempt to conclude a bilateral agreement.
This agreement would allow Spanish Fatima Ofkir to serve the sentence she was condemned to in Oman in a Spanish prison. The young woman was arrested in August 2018, aged 18, after police found a package of seven kilos of morphine in the hotel room where she was staying, and was subsequently sentenced to life imprisonment.
