A group of 18 members of the House of Commons and the House of Lords will make a working visit to Gibraltar this week on the occasion of National Day, the Government of Gibraltar said in a press release.

The parliamentarians will coincide on the Rock with another delegation of leaders of the British Overseas Territories, which will carry out preparatory work in view of its next meeting of the Joint Ministerial Council (JMC) with the United Kingdom, to be held in November.

The delegation of British parliamentarians includes representation from the Conservative, Labour, Liberal Democrat, Democratic Unionist and Ulster Unionist parties. The chairman of the All Party Group on Gibraltar, Sir Bob Neill, will also be present.

Chief Minister Fabian Picardo will brief MPs and Lords on the latest political developments, including the situation at the border and the position on the conclusion of a Treaty with the European Union, “to which the Government remains fully committed,” according to the press release. In a separate briefing, Deputy Chief Minister Joseph Garcia will discuss the Government’s plans in the event of a non-negotiated outcome to the Treaty. The two delegations of British Overseas Territories parliamentarians and leaders will also participate in other events organized around Gibraltar’s National Day.
