168 migrants rescued last Thursday by the Guardia Civil’s ‘Río Tajo’ patrol boat off the port of Nouadhibou (Mauritania) and who were on their way back to Senegal, disembarked yesterday in the port of the city of Saint Louis, on the northwest coast of the country.

According to the Ministry of Interior, all the migrants are “safe on land” after the crossing they began on Monday from the coast of Mauritania, where they were rescued by the Guardia Civil last Thursday when they were travelling in a cayuco boat towards the Canary Islands.

After concluding the transfer of all the migrants and returning them to Senegal, the country from which the cayuco set off, the acting Interior Minister, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, underlined the “extraordinary” work of the ‘Río Tajo’ and the Guardia Civil, who “have managed to save the lives of all those rescued”, reports Europa Press. “You are a source of pride for Spain, you have demonstrated these days the professionalism, dedication and devotion that characterises the Guardia Civil,“ reads the message sent to the officers from the Interior.
