The Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, José Manuel Albares, and the acting Minister of Defence, Margarita Robles, will open the seminar ‘Strategic Compass: Challenges and Opportunities’, scheduled to take place at 16:00 hours at the Toledo Conference Centre on Wednesday 30.
This meeting will be held in the margins of the informal meetings of the European Union’s foreign affairs ministers (Gymnich) and defence ministers, as both ministries reported in a press release.
Afterwards, the EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, will hold a conversation with the Director of the Istituto di Affari Internazionali, Nathalie Tocci, on the EU’s foreign, security and defence policy.
The European Commissioner for the Internal Market, Thierry Breton, will then speak on the European defence industry. The day will include two panels moderated by the heads of the Elcano Royal Institute. The first, on the development of the Strategic Compass, will be attended by representatives of European governments and think tanks. The second, on the Technological and Industrial Base of Defence, will include specialists from the industrial sector. The Secretary of State for Defence, María Amparo Valcarce, and the Secretary of State for Foreign and Global Affairs, Ángeles Moreno, will close the meeting.
