His Majesty the King plans to travel to Paraguay today to attend the inauguration of the country’s new president, Santiago Peña Palacios, which will take place tomorrow, Tuesday, in Asunción.
Don Felipe has represented Spain on numerous occasions at the inaugurations of Latin American presidents, both as King and, before acceding to the throne, as Prince of Asturias. This time, he will be accompanied by the State Secretary for Ibero-America, the Caribbean and Spanish in the World, Juan Fernández Trigo.
The ceremony, which will include a military parade, will be attended by some 90 foreign delegations, some of them represented at the highest level, as heads of state have announced their attendance, such as Brazil’s Luiz Inacio Lula Da Silva, Argentina’s Alberto Fernández, Uruguay’s Luis Lacalle, Chile’s Gabriel Boric and Bolivia’s Luis Arce, as well as the Ibero-American Secretary General, Andrés Allamand.
Don Felipe will coincide with them at the ceremony, but also this evening at a welcome dinner for the foreign leaders, which will be hosted by the outgoing President, Mario Abdo Benitez, whom the King received in Spain in November last year, during an official visit to our country.
Santiago Peña, of the Colorado Party like the outgoing president, won last April’s presidential elections with 51.6 per cent support.
