France’s Foreign Ministry on Sunday announced the suspension of development and budget aid to Burkina Faso, days after the country’s military junta declared its support for Niger’s coup plotters.
UN Secretary-General António Guterres yesterday reiterated his “concern” over the detention of Niger’s deposed President Mohamed Bazoum and regretted that “constitutional order” had not been restored after the coup.
The United Nations continues to give its “full support” to the work of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), which will hold a new extraordinary summit next Thursday following the end of its ultimatum to the coup junta to release and reinstate President Bazoum as head of state.
