A new resolution, submitted to the US House of Representatives by 20 of its members, calls for Gibraltar’s military role and the desirability of secure access to its facilities for the US armed forces. They also propose that the views and rights of Gibraltarians be taken into account in its status as a British Overseas Territory, reports the ‘Gibraltar News’ website.
This is the fourth time such a resolution has been introduced in the US Congress, although all the previous ones have failed for different reasons.
Meanwhile, a group of seven US congressmen and members of their staffs landed in Gibraltar on Saturday on a US Air Force flight. This group held meetings with the Governor, representatives of the British Ministry of Defence on the Rock and the Gibraltar Government.
