The Diplomat
The Iranian Embassy in Spain states on its Twitter account that “the European Union should react, both out of respect for 2 billion Muslims and to stop the hatred“, in relation to the burning of a Koran on 30 June next to the main mosque in Stockholm.
The embassy adds, in an email to The Diplomat, that “insulting sanctities, including the burning of Holy Books, is alien to freedom of expression” and claims that “undermining civilised norms, takes Europe back to the Dark Ages”.
The text posted on Twitter follows a message issued by the supreme leader of the Islamic Republic, Seyed Ali Khamenei, in which he said that “it is the duty of the government of Sweden to hand over the perpetrator of the Koran burning to the judicial bodies of Islamic countries”.
