King Felipe VI yesterday received in audience the participants in the fifteenth plenary session of the Euro-Latin American Parliamentary Assembly (EuroLat), which is being held in Madrid from yesterday until July 27.

The meeting took place at the Royal Palace of El Pardo and brought together the European and Latin American parliamentarians participating in the 15th plenary session of the Assembly, which is being held at the Senate.

During the Assembly, the 150 members of EuroLat -75 MEPs and 75 representatives of the parliaments of Latin America and the Caribbean, including the Parlatino (Latin American Parliament), the Parlandino (Andean Parliament), the Parlacen (Central American Parliament), the Parlasur (Mercosur Parliament) and the joint parliamentary committees of Chile and Mexico-will have the opportunity to evaluate the results and conclusions of the third Summit of leaders of the EU and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), held just a week ago in Brussels and the first since 2015.

The Euro-Latin American Parliamentary Assembly (EuroLat) is the parliamentary institution of the European Union-Latin America and Caribbean Bi-regional Strategic Partnership and meets in plenary session once a year. The last plenary meeting took place in April 2022 in Buenos Aires.

The opening speech at the inauguration will take place tomorrow at 11:15 a.m. by the acting Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, and the closing of the session will be on Thursday at 1:30 p.m., with the intervention of the acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares.

The main activity of the EuroLat Assembly will take place on July 27, where reports and recommendations previously prepared on Tuesday 25 by the different commissions and working groups that make up EuroLat will be debated and voted on. Some of the topics include the fight against hate speech, the regulation of digital platforms, the challenges of COVID-19 in education and healthcare, access to water, the fight against organized crime, trade negotiations and the universal declaration of the rights of nature.
