Until 30 July, the Balletto di Milano will perform the opera Carmen at the Teatro La Latina in Madrid (Plaza de la Cebada, 2).
Carmen and Fate are the absolute protagonists of this Carmen, faithful to P. Merimée’s novel and Bizet’s opera: from the very first scene, a spellbinding face-to-face between the gypsy woman, symbol of seduction and femininity, and the disturbing figure that represents Fate, drives the story.
It is Fate who puts Carmen’s path first to Don José and then to Escamillo, who reveals himself little by little through the symbols of the cards (love, betrayal, death), who takes Don José’s hand and, in the end, who takes Carmen away with him. Don José, the bullfighter Escamillo and Micaela are the other protagonists of this ballet full of exciting choreography, from the famous Habanera, through the passionate pas de deux, to the many lively ensemble dances of Gitanos, Soldados and Cigarreros performed to the wonderful music of Georges Bizet.
