Until 6 August, as part of the Veranos de la Villa programme, the exhibition Seasonal Proximities, by Cao Yuxi will be on show at the Espacio Cultural Serrería Belga in Madrid (Calle Alameda, 15). Free admission.
This exhibition is organised by the Centro Cultural de China in Madrid, the Municipal Office of Culture, Radio, Television, Tourism and Sports of Shenzhen, with the collaboration of Casa Asia and Lottusse. China is the guest country in the 2023 edition of the summer festival, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Spain.
In 2022, at the request of the film director Zhang Yimou, the artist Cao Yuxi was responsible for the audiovisuals for the ceremony of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games. Once again, the Chinese creator surprised the public with one of his immersive experiences, which often take the form of monumental installations and which have been exhibited in museums and galleries around the world such as MOMA PS1 and Beijing Today Art Museum.
Veranos de la Villa presents this exhibition, in which Cao explores one of his favourite themes: the influence of technology and the digital age on our perception of reality. Through interactive screens and moving image projections, this fascinating work of art depicts vivid natural landscapes in an immersive 360-degree cinematic experience, transporting visitors to the great outdoors.
Cao Yuxi designs, collaborates and consults on projects that span the spectrum of sound visualisation, programming and computer science. His innovative approach to art making and the incorporation of technology has enabled Cao Yuxi to generate and shape numerous design projects, including space design, new media art installation and public art in China and abroad.
