The Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, held a meeting yesterday in Madrid with the European Union Special Representative for the Persian Gulf, Luigi di Maio.
During the meeting, held at the Ministry’s headquarters, Albares and Di Maio addressed “the EU’s relations with the Gulf” during the Spanish Presidency of the EU Council, the minister said through his Twitter account. “I have conveyed to him Spain’s support for his work,” he concluded.
Luigi di Maio, Italy’s foreign minister between 2019 and 2022, has held the post of special representative of the European Union for the Persian Gulf since January 1. The Italian leader is the first to hold this position, which did not exist previously. Di Maio met with Albares on several occasions during his time as minister. The last one took place in Rome in April 2022.
