Until 16 July, actors Carlos Marín, Félix Martín and Alba Gallego present the play Los Hermanos Machado, produced by María López Insausti and directed by Carlos Martín, at the Teatro Bellas Artes (Calle del Marqués de Casa Riera, 2).
Manuel Machado returns home just after the end of the civil war, to the house shared in Madrid by his mother and brother Antonio, who fled to France to die there. The real meeting will no longer be possible: the war separated them like so many families, victims of different ideologies or of their geographical locations… In short, by two sides that broke off filial relations which, on many occasions, could not be recovered.
But this work imagines that meeting, giving voice to the brothers who were once separated by a war that should never have existed. No one can heal those “wounds” any more, that painful family rupture. Or can they? What would have happened if that meeting had been possible, or if that war had not distanced them, placed them on different sides?
This painful and healing dialogue will help them to remember everything they have lived together: their years as successful playwrights, the loves of one and the other, their youth as modernist bohemians, their childhood in a courtyard in Seville? They are family in spite of everything, even if they are now a big family broken and separated by death… Or are they? Tickets for the show can be purchased at this link.
