Diplomat Doan Thanh Song has taken up his post as Vietnamese Ambassador to Spain, after presenting the Copies of his Letters of Credence to the Ambassadors’ Introducer, María Sebastián de Erice, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the 5th.
Doan Thanh Song, who replaces Ngo Tien Dung, has headed the Information Centre of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam for the past five years, where he was previously Deputy Director General.
Born in 1975, the new ambassador holds a Master’s degree in International Relations and joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 2000.
Subsequently, Doan Thanh Song was posted to the Vietnamese Embassy in South Africa, and from 2006 to 2013 he was Head of Division and Deputy Director General of the Cabinet Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. From 2013 to 2017, he was Deputy Consul General of C Vietnam in Sydney, Australia.
Among the objectives of the new ambassador is to strengthen bilateral relations with Spain, particularly in the economic field, after the Vietnamese deputy prime minister, Tran Luu Quang, visited Spain last March to participate in the Business Forum Spain – Vietnam, organised by the State Secretariat for Trade/ICEX, the Spanish Chamber of Commerce and CEOE.
