The US Department of State’s Special Representative for International Labour Affairs, Kelly M. Fay Rodriguez, visited Madrid this week to meet with her Spanish counterparts and discuss shared priorities on labour policies and workers’ rights.
Fay Rodriguez, who was in the Spanish capital from the 19th to the 21st, met with officials from the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Labour and Inclusion to discuss common global labour priorities. She also held meetings with leaders of the UGT and Comisiones Obreras trade unions and with leading private sector companies, employers and business representatives.
The Special Representative discussed international supply chain initiatives to improve labour rights and develop workforce skills, as well as good practices for due diligence and the protection of migrant workers’ rights.
Fay Rodriguez appreciated the continued diplomatic collaboration, for example through the Multilateral Partnership for Organizing, Empowerment and Workers’ Rights (MPOWER) initiative and other forums, to promote equitable and inclusive economic development that continues to generate benefits for workers in the Americas and in Spain.
