The Diplomat
Ireland in Frame is the title of the exhibition that was inaugurated last Wednesday by the Irish Embassy as part of Photoespaña 2023, an event that took place at B travel Xperience, Calle Miguel Ángel, 33, Madrid.
“This is the first time that Ireland has participated in Photoespaña, said the Irish Ambassador, Frank Smyth, in his introductory speech, and we are very pleased to do so. Ireland in Frame is a collection of urban photography that shows a different and less portrayed perspective of everyday life. Full of realism, cityscapes and real Irish life.”
“The relationship between Spain and Ireland is characterised by great empathy and deep roots,” he continued. We have many common characteristics, the result of long and complex historical processes, including, more recently, our common membership of the European Union, which has brought us even closer together. We are very happy to have four Irish photographers in this exhibition, which reflects a more open, modern and diverse Ireland. We hope that this exhibition will be an inspiration to attract our dear Spanish visitors to the Emerald Isle and we look forward to welcoming them warmly. Tourism is one of the most important sectors for the Irish economy. Spain is the fifth largest market with over four hundred and thirty thousand visitors in 2019 and we hope to maintain this position and grow sustainably in the future.”
