On 27 June the Fundación Scherzo presents the last concert of the 28th Ciclo de Grandes Intérpretes in the Symphonic Hall of the Auditorio Nacional de Música in Madrid, which will be given by the Russian pianist Arcadi Volodos.
The guest artist has prepared a recital expressly for the centenary of the birth of Alicia de Larrocha, with short, almost ephemeral works by Mompou and Scriabin, articulated by a ballad by Liszt. In this way, Volodos proposes a recital based on music made from thought. Music in its essence will be reflected in a selection of twelve pieces belonging to the four notebooks of Música Callada, in which Mompou seeks the maximum expression with the fewest possible means, thus discovering the message from the simple, from the pure. Taking as his inspiration some verses by San Juan de la Cruz, the composer from Barcelona seeks, with this Música Callada, the inner sounds that resonate in the interior of every human being.
From Mompou’s intimacy, we will travel to the Ballade No. 2 in B minor, S.171, by F. Liszt, a work that runs through the whole range of human passions: from its strong initial swell that seems to spring from the underworld to that sincere, existential conclusion, which transforms the mirror of death into a space of comfort and acceptance.
Finally, Volodos will show a portrait of Scriabin as never before, comprising a selection of 13 pieces by the Russian composer, ranging from his Chopin-inspired studies to the preludes he composed during his time as a teacher in Moscow, his Musical Poems in which the typical Scriabin Mystic Chord can already be appreciated, his last foray into the Sonata or the diabolical Vers la flamme.
