The Egyptian ambassador to Spain, Youssef Mekkawy, visited the Grifols plant in Parets del Vallés (Barcelona), where he was shown the first-class engineering which is being applied in the new Grifols Egypt manufacturing plant being built in his country.
During his visit to Grifols, a world leader in plasma medicines, the ambassador met with company executives such as Thomas Glanzmann, Executive Chairman and CEO; Raimon Grifols, Corporate General Manager; Victor Grifols Deu, Director of Operations; and Tomás Dagà, a member of the Grifols Board of Directors. The ambassador reaffirmed his country’s commitment to Grifols Egypt for Plasma Derivatives, a joint venture between Grifols and the Egyptian National Service Projects Organization to develop a fully integrated plasma supply infrastructure to ensure national and regional self-sufficiency in plasma-derived medicines.
During his visit to the Parets del Vallés plant, Youssef Mekkawy highlighted the advanced automation of operations and strict compliance with the highest international standards of quality and safety, characteristics which will also define Grifols Egypt’s new manufacturing facilities under construction in the medical city of the New Administrative Capital.
Once completed by the end of 2025 and operational, the facilities will produce the Grifols Egypt plasma-derived products that Parets del Valles manufactures in the meantime. Last week Grifols Egypt announced that it is about to deliver its first shipment of medicines – albumin – to local hospitals.
All the plasma for Grifols Egypt’s treatments comes from Egyptian donors and a growing network of plasma centres in the country. Six are open, another four are expected to be operational before the end of the year, and by 2024 a total of 20 centres will be accepting donations.
