Actor Omar Sy (Untouchables, Tomorrow it all begins, Samba) has released the film Father and Soldier, directed by Mathieu Vadepied, to great critical and public acclaim.
This film, written by Vadepied himself with Olivier Demangel, places the viewer in 1917 in the French colony of Senegal, where young Senegalese men were forcibly recruited to join the infantry and artillery corps, tirailleurs (riflemen), and fight alongside the French army in the First World War.
Bakary enlists in the French army to stay with Thierno, his 17-year-old son, recruited against his will. Together, father and son must fight in the First World War on the front lines in France, a country they do not know and for which Thierno is willing to give his life. Bakary embarks on an intense and hellish race to save his son.
