The Centro Cultural Coreano invites the public to enjoy a new edition of the K-Pop Contest in Spain. This new edition dedicated to Korean pop will be held on Sunday 25 June at 12 noon at the Teatro EDP Gran Vía (calle Gran Vía, 66). The event is free of charge and tickets will be handed out on the day of the contest, from 11 a.m. on a first come, first served basis until full capacity is reached.
After a call for entries with more than 170 videos received from amateur K-Pop fans, 31 young people aged between 15 and 29 from Madrid, Valencia, Cáceres, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Barcelona and Málaga have been selected in the singing and dancing categories, specifically, 5 soloists for the singing category and 4 groups and 1 soloist in the dancing category. The contestants will compete with K-Pop songs from bands such as Le Sserafim and New Jeans in Korean language.
The first place winners in both categories will receive a cash prize of €1,000 and after an online round will be eligible for an all-expenses-paid trip to Korea to participate in the K-Pop World Festival, a global K-Pop competition broadcast on KBS (Korean TV channel), which is held every year in Changwon City (South Korea). Second place in both categories will receive a cash value of €500.
The contest will feature Xenia, a singer and creator of K-Pop cover songs on YouTube and TikTok, as the emcee of the event. The jury will be composed of Chung-man Kim, Barcelona-based singer and host of the “Aprèn cultura coreana” section of the Catalan K-Pop show “Kóreo” on SX3; Hyemin, a K-Pop singer and songwriter based in Spain; and Coco (Yeonsoo Do), a member of the K-Pop group ATTI (formerly known as KACHI) and dance instructor in England. Participants in both categories will be judged not only on their talent, but also on the degree of difficulty of the piece performed, as well as the staging of songs from the current K-Pop music scene. As part of the scheduled activities, there will be a special raffle session for attendees with exciting prizes up for grabs.
