As part of the Incontri d’autore series of meetings, today Thursday at 6 p.m., the Instituto Italiano de Cultura in Madrid is organising a meeting with the Italian writer, journalist and translator Bruno Arpaia (pictured). In dialogue with the director of the Institute, Marialuisa Pappalardo, the writer will talk about his rich literary activity, touching on some themes related to his recurrent reflection on time and history.

Free admission with reservation by writing to susi.baldasseroni@esteri.it, indicating name, surname and telephone contact of all persons for whom reservation is requested and in the subject “8 June”.  Reservations until today at 2 p.m.

Also, Friday, in the Eugenio Trías Library Assembly Hall at 7.30 p.m. and as part of the 82nd Madrid Book Fair, the Institute is also organising a meeting with this writer in a colloquium with the literary translator Carlos Gumpert. The two of them, Bruno Arpaia and Carlos Gumpert, will address the subject of literary translation, a discipline capable of bringing very different peoples and cultures closer together. The translation of literary works, far from being a simple operation of interpretation, is in fact a much broader and deeper concept, as it requires the translator to fully immerse himself in the writer’s imaginary and in the cultural context of reference. Admission to this event is free.
