The 5th edition of the extension of the Festival de Mérida in Madrid was presented last Monday at the Teatro Reina Victoria, with four new titles for lovers of the classics, La Tumba de Antígona, Clytemnestra, Cayo César and El aroma de Roma.
This extension of the 69th edition of the Mérida Festival, which will be held from 1 July to 27 August in the Extremaduran capital, will be in the capital from tomorrow until 25 June at the Bellas Artes and Reina Victoria Theatres.
The four titles, starring, among others, renowned actors and actresses such as Cristina Castaño, Agustín Jiménez and Leo Rivera, are the chosen classics that will land in Madrid after being acclaimed by critics and audiences alike in the Plaza Emeritense.
From tomorrow until 11 June, the Teatro Reina Victoria will host Cayo César, a one-act drama written by Agustín Muñoz Sanz and produced by Atakama Creatividad Cultural. Francisco Palomino, producer of the play, invites the audience to enjoy the play, where they will be able to see modern-day characters reflected in Caligula and the other main characters.
From 14 to 18 June, María Zambrano’s La tumba de Antígona will be performed at the Teatro Bellas Artes. A co-production of the Festival de Mérida and Karlik Danza-Teatro. Ana García, who will play the role of Antigone.
From 15 to 18 June, the Teatro Reina Victoria will host El Aroma de Roma, a co-production of the Festival Internacional de Teatro Clásico de Mérida and Alcachofa Shows, starring Agustín Jiménez, Leo Rivera, Jaime Figueroa and Lorena Calero, among others.
And finally, Clitemnestra will be at the Teatro Bellas Artes from the 21st to the 25th of June. This play is a production by Coribante Producciones, directed by José María del Castillo, who seeks to “give a voice to a character so mistreated by history”.
