The Embassy of Ecuador and the Community of Madrid presented last Tuesday the bullfighting exhibition Esencia y bravura, by the Ecuadorian painter Román León.
The Ecuadorian artist, known as “the bullfighting painter of Ecuador”, was invited by the Community of Madrid to participate in the bullfighting art exhibitions of the San Isidro festivities in the bullring of Las Ventas in Madrid.
The Ambassador of Ecuador, Andrés Vallejo, was proud of the presence of the artist Román León in Spain and in a place like the Plaza de Toros de Las Ventas in Madrid, and referred to him as “a painter who is dedicated to bullfighting, to bullfighting with his art. He is like the bullfighters. Art and bullfighting require passion and a great deal of skill, and this exhibition demonstrates this passion and skill. Without passion there is no bullfighting and without passion there is no such a deeply felt art”.
For his part, the author of the works on display, visibly moved, highlighted the great work carried out to be able to fulfil the dream of exhibiting in a venue such as “the best bullring in the world”.
Román is a self-taught artist, whose passion for the world of bullfighting and art has led him to exhibit in the main cities of Ecuador linked to the world of bullfighting.
The power of his strokes, his vibrant colours and the movement of each of his brushstrokes evoke the essence and bravery of the fighting bull, from its wild upbringing in the pasture to its entrance into the bullring.
The exhibition can be visited free of charge until Sunday 4 June, from 10.30 am to 1.30 pm.
