To commemorate the National Day of the Republic of Azerbaijan, which is celebrated every 28 May, Madrid City Council illuminated the Cibeles Fountain in the colours of the Azerbaijani flag for the first time ever. The blue, red and green colours of the national flag were projected onto the fountain at dusk on Tuesday, 30 May.

The Ambassador of Azerbaijan, Ramiz Hasanov, thanked the Madrid City Council for supporting the initiative of his diplomatic mission, stressing that the Kingdom of Spain was one of the first countries to recognise independence and establish diplomatic relations with the Caucasian country.

The Cibeles is not only a fountain in Madrid’s most emblematic square, but has become one of the symbols of the country. As it is located in the centre of the city, it is a meeting point for any of the typical celebrations of the people of Madrid.
