The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China (Taiwan) is launching a new edition of the Taiwan Fellowship programme, through which researchers, experts or university professors can carry out research projects and studies in universities or academic institutions in Taiwan.
Those interested may send their applications until 30 June, and must carry out their research project in Taiwan in 2024, for a minimum of three months and a maximum of twelve.
The main requirement is that their research must be in the fields of social sciences or humanities on topics related to Taiwan, cross-Taiwan Strait relations, mainland China, the Asia-Pacific region or sinology studies in general.
The project is open to university professors, associate professors, assistant professors, postdoctoral and doctoral researchers or students in doctoral programmes, as well as other researchers of similar level in academic institutions. Also candidates recommended by Taiwan offices abroad who are studying Taiwan’s foreign relations or cross-Strait relations.
Until 30 June 2023, applicants should apply online through this website, and then send a copy of their uploaded information by post to the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECTO) in Madrid (C/ Rosario Pino, 14-16, piso 18 drcha., 28020 Madrid), together with the following documents: application form, curriculum vitae (including list of publications); research proposal (three pages) and two letters of recommendation.
The amounts corresponding to the fellowship allocation range from NT$50,000 to NT$60,000 per month (approximately 1,500 to 1,800 euros), depending on the academic level of the researcher. The fellowship also includes the cost of the round-trip economy airfare (around 1,800 euros for Europe).
