The Banco de España has joined the Board of Trustees of the Elcano Royal Institute by signing a collaboration agreement for the promotion of activities and initiatives of common interest within the framework of their respective objectives and fields of action.
Through this agreement, signed yesterday by the Governor of the Bank of Spain, Pablo Hernández de Cos, and by the President of the Elcano Royal Institute, José Juan Ruiz, both parties commit to an exchange of knowledge and experiences through collaborations or joint research projects, as well as to the joint organization of seminars, conferences and scientific meetings and to the promotion and dissemination by both institutions of the research and initiatives they carry out, according to the think tank in a press release.
The Board of Trustees of the Elcano Royal Institute approved the appointment of the Banco de España as a trustee and member of the Executive Committee at its meeting on December 15, 2022, which also approved the incorporation of Ángeles Moreno Bau, Secretary of State for Foreign and Global Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Josep Borrell, High Representative for Foreign and Security Policy of the EU and Vice President of the European Commission.
Accordingly, and by means of this agreement, the RIE undertakes to ensure the effectiveness of the appointment of the Banco de España as a member of its Board of Trustees and Executive Committee and to disseminate and record the collaboration provided by the Banco de España in any communications, publications or activities it carries out.
The Banco de España is a public law entity that performs the function of national central bank in Spain. It is also responsible for supervising the Spanish banking system and other financial intermediaries operating in Spain. These functions are carried out within the European institutional framework, of which the Banco de España forms part as a member of the European System of Central Banks (ESCB) and the Eurosystem, as well as the Single Supervisory Mechanism (SSM) and the Single Resolution Mechanism (SRM).
The Elcano Royal Institute is a think-tank for international and strategic studies, carried out from a Spanish, European and global perspective. Its objective is to promote knowledge of Spain’s international reality and foreign relations in society, as well as to serve as a focus for thought and the generation of ideas that are useful for decision making by political decision makers, leaders of private companies and public institutions, social agents and academics. To this end, José Juan Ruiz and María Dolores de Cospedal, Vice President of the Elcano Royal Institute, received Pablo Hernández de Cos yesterday at the Institute’s headquarters.
