The Diplomat
The current Paraguayan ambassador to Spain, Ricardo Scavone, will leave his post, which he has held since the summer of 2020, on 14 June.
A career diplomat, Scavone expressed his wish to take extraordinary retirement, after a long professional career that has seen him also serve as Ambassador to Colombia and Chargé d’Affaires in Peru and Bolivia, as well as having been posted to the Paraguayan Embassies in Mexico and Chile. He has also represented his country in multilateral organisations such as Aladi and Mercosur and, in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he was Director of the Cabinet of the Minister, Director of Legal Affairs, Director General of Foreign Trade and Director General of Bilateral Policy.
Ricardo Scavone, who is a member of the Paraguayan Academy of History and a founding member of the Paraguayan Centre for International Studies (Cepei), and who has published some twenty works, will now return to academic life.
During his stay in Madrid, he has been intensely active in strengthening relations between Spain and Paraguay, one of the milestones of which was the official visit made to our country in November last year by the Paraguayan President, Mario Abdó, with an important economic content. In addition, a year earlier, Her Majesty the Queen made a cooperation trip to Paraguay.
The appointment of the new Paraguayan ambassador to Spain is awaiting the decision of the recently elected president of the South American country, Santiago Peña, who will take office in August.
