The emblematic Cibeles fountain in Madrid will be illuminated for the second consecutive year with the colours of the Ecuadorian flag for its National Day. The illumination will begin today at 21:30h and will remain until 01:00h on 24 May.
May 24th is Ecuador’s National Day, commemorating the 201st anniversary of the Battle of Pichincha. The illumination of the fountain is an initiative of the Embassy of Ecuador in Spain and has been made possible thanks to the support of the Madrid City Council.
Spain currently has 430,000 Ecuadorian residents, more than half of whom have dual nationality.
