The ambassadors of Slovakia, Juraj Tomaga, and the Czech Republic, Ivan Jančárek, celebrated the thirtieth anniversary of their countries as independent states last Friday with an original and different activity: the screening of the ice hockey match in the world championship between Slovakia and the Czech Republic.
We don’t like to call it a separation,” said ambassador Juraj Tomaga, “but rather a re-accommodation of the two countries in Europe, and we are holding this event so that everyone can see that we get along well, except during this match, of course. Then, to the laughter of the audience, the ambassador took a Slovak scarf out of his pocket.
For his part, Ivan Jančárek thanked the Slovak Embassy for preparing the event and pointed out that “it is an interesting day because we will be together to watch a match that is similar to a derby of the two closest peoples in Europe. And we have brought a Czech flag with us…”.
