The Chargé d’Affaires of the U.S. Embassy in Spain, Conrad Tribble, hosted a reception at his residence for media professionals on the occasion of World Press Freedom Day, which is celebrated every year on 3 May.

Addressing the journalists, Tribble stressed that “the media play a fundamental role in democracy and the exchange of ideas”.

The diplomat said, among other things, that the media “provide transparency and hold governments accountable, expose abuses of power, human rights abuses, as well as corruption.
