Fundación Casa de México presents this evening at 19.30 a recital of music from the state of Oaxaca, an important part of Mexican culture, performed by the Ensamble Alma de Cuerdas. In cultural terms it is very diverse and rich, as it encompasses diverse rhythms according to the cultural and geographical region where it originates.
Oaxaca is home to extremely diverse sounds, ranging from wind bands in the Sierra, to sones and jarabes in the Mixteca, chilenas on the coast, sones and huapangos in the Papaloapan basin (with harp and jarana accompaniment), marimba music in the centre of the state and Zapotec songs in the Isthmus.
Many Oaxacan songs are well known around the world. Such is the case of “La Sandunga”, “La Martiniana”, “La Llorona”, the “Canción Mixteca”, “Dios Nunca Muere” and many others, which are part of Mexican culture and of which all of Mexico knows some version or at least a few bars.
An important characteristic is that the Ensamble Alma de Cuerdas, created in 2016 by a group of young people from the city of Oaxaca, is made up solely of classical strings, and that they make their own adaptations of the songs they perform in this concert, which is suitable for all audiences.
