The Diplomat
As announced by The Diplomat, the 13th Romanian Film Festival opened on Thursday 20 April at the Cineteca in Madrid with the film Metronom. The event was attended by the Romanian ambassador, George Bologan; the director of the Instituto Rumano de Cultura in Madrid, Maria Pop, and the director Cătălin Mitulescu, as well as several representatives of the Madrid City Council, and the film critic Roberto Cueto.
At the opening, the Romanian Ambassador stressed the importance of cinema for human progress: “We all want to live in a more united and inclusive Europe, and for this we must fight prejudice and stereotypes. Cinema is an effective medium that contributes to this, because a film is not just a story, it reflects the great richness and heritage of humanity, the diversity of civilisations and cultures, and is an engine for human progress.
Film has always been an important force in shaping society. From its beginnings, when silent films were used as a tool for social reform and political commentary, to the present day, when film is considered the seventh art form, it has exerted a profound influence on the way we perceive the world.
