Acciona, through its infrastructure division, has signed an agreement with Danish renewable energy giant Orsted to jointly develop solutions to manufacture “large-scale foundations” for offshore wind farms.

According to the Spanish company, through this agreement, Acciona and Orsted will collaborate in the development of foundation models and will offer the market “easily adaptable” solutions for offshore wind turbines of different sizes and depths.

In this regard, both companies will evaluate the cost-competitive mass production of construction solutions based on floating concrete platforms, while exploring the use of materials such as ‘green’ cement and concrete.

Acciona stresses that the agreement will enhance the creation of a “strong European supply chain” to support the continent’s portfolio of floating wind energy projects.

Orsted, based in Denmark, has more than 30 years of experience in developing offshore wind energy projects. Acciona, for its part, has specialised maritime machinery and equipment and has three floating docks, including the Kugira.

The Spanish company recalls that the European Union has set a target of reaching 60 gigawatts (GW) of installed offshore wind power by 2030 and 300 GW by 2050.

“This alliance will help us to accelerate the development of our business as a supplier of offshore platforms for the wind industry,” said Huberto Moreno, CEO of Acciona Construction.

Rasmus Errboe, Executive Vice President and CEO Europe at Orsted, explained that the aim of partnering with Acciona “is to take floating wind energy from the current innovation phase to a new stage of industrialisation”.
