The 8th Francophone Film Festival takes place at the Cineteca de Madrid

Organised by the Alliance Française de Madrid with the collaboration of the participating embassies and the support of the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, the VIII Muestra de Cine Francófono de Madrid will be held from 16 to 19 March at the Cineteca de Madrid, a festival that seeks to give visibility to the rich heritage of the French-speaking cinematographies of several continents (Africa, America and Europe) from a humanist perspective.

Each year, the public discovers the work of directors with their own vision and voice, through films that invite reflection and emotion. In this 8th edition, eleven films of different genres (documentaries, intimate dramas, comedies, animated films) are presented, with a strong protagonism of youth in most of them. Young people fighting for the freedom to love, for the right to study, teenagers facing motherhood in a fragile situation or rebuilding themselves after a stolen childhood.

These stories take place in the breathtaking valleys of Switzerland, in the Amerindian society of Canada, in sub-Saharan Africa, in Belgium and in France. There will be an opportunity for dialogue with the French filmmaker Julie Lerat-Gersant, director of Petites.

This year’s guest of honour, Luxembourg, opens the festival with the documentary L’Invitation, directed by Fabrizio Maltese, which brings viewers closer to an immense and largely unknown country, Mauritania. The festival will be attended by the filmmaker and will provide an opportunity to learn more about the genesis of his project. The festival programme can be consulted at this link.
