The Romanian Minister of Labour, Marius-Constantin Budăi, and the Spanish Minister of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration, José Luis Escrivá, have signed a cooperation agreement between the two countries in the field of Social Security.

The text was signed during the Romanian minister’s visit to our country last week and whose aim, according to the Romanian Embassy in Spain, was to develop far-reaching objectives “in crucial sectors for both countries, such as labour and social protection, and for a constant exchange of good practices”.

The diplomatic representation recalls that more than one million Romanians live in Spain and “represent a mature community, consolidated in the landscape of Spanish society, being an indispensable segment of the society in which they live, contributing decisively to the social and economic welfare of Spain”.

Marius-Constantin Budăi, who also held a meeting with Romanian workers in Madrid, signed a joint declaration of intentions with Escrivá for cooperation between the ministries of specialities of the two countries in the field of social security.

The document underlines the importance of labour mobility between the two countries and aims to promote policies of inclusion and social security, integration and promotion of the rights and obligations of citizens, in order to contribute to the growth of social cohesion and the balanced development of society.

At the signing ceremony, the Romanian Ambassador in Madrid, George Bologan, stressed that Spain has shown openness and interest in the problems of Romanians and an example of this is the fact that, during the joint meeting of the two governments last year, on the occasion of the bilateral meeting with Yolanda Diaz, Second Vice-President and Minister of Labour and Social Economy, the central theme was to ensure the protection and respect for the rights of Romanian workers on the Peninsula.

The agenda of the talks between the two ministers also included the objective of the National Recovery and Resilience Plans to which both countries have committed themselves, that of pension reform, which must be carried out with respect and dignity towards the citizens, the Embassy said.
