On the occasion of Women’s Month, and with the collaboration of the Netflix platform, Casa Árabe is screening this evening at 7:00 pm the film Las nadadoras (The Swimmers), a biographical drama from 2022 directed by Sally El Hosaini from a script she co-wrote with Jack Thorne. The screening will be followed by a discussion on Syria and the situation of refugees with the participation of Leila Nachawati, professor of Communication at the Universidad Carlos III and co-founder of the Syria Untold portal.
The film tells the story of the journey of swimming sisters Yusra and Sarah Mardini, who fled war-torn Syria as refugees to live a new life in Europe and the chance to compete in the 2016 Rio Olympics. The film stars Nathalie Issa and Manal Issa (sisters in real life) and Ahmed Malek. The screening will be in the original version with Spanish subtitles (VOSE). Discussion in English and Spanish.
