At the end of the year, Spain will host an International Ministerial Forum on Holocaust Remembrance and Combating Anti-Semitism, which will be a re-edition of the Malmö Forum (Sweden), held in 2021.
According to the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the decision to organise the forum was agreed during meetings held last week by the Department with a delegation from the World Jewish Center. This entity organised a series of meetings in Madrid with the participation of its president, the American Ronald S. Lauder, and leaders of Jewish communities from more than fifty countries.
The holding of this ministerial forum, which will take place during the six months of the Spanish Presidency of the European Union, will serve, according to a statement from the Ministry headed by José Manuel Albares, to “reinforce the commitments” made at the previous edition of the Malmö Forum in 2021, evaluate the progress of the European strategy to combat anti-Semitism and promote Jewish life, and define new priorities in the work of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance.
Last January, the Spanish government approved a national plan to implement the European Strategy to Combat Anti-Semitism (2023-2030), with the aim of fostering the conditions for Jewish communities to live in Spain in accordance with their beliefs and traditions and to make the fight against anti-Semitism a cross-cutting issue in public policies.
