Exhibition ‘The Divine Comedy in the jewels of Percossi Papi’

Until 19 April, the Instituto Italiano de Cultura of Madrid is collaborating with the Italian Embassy in Madrid and the Madrid City Council in the presentation of the jewellery exhibition The Precious Path of Dante – The Divine Comedy in the jewels of Percossi Papi, with works from the atelier of the famous Italian jeweller Diego Percossi Papi, which can be visited in the Sala de Bóvedas of the Casa de la Panadería in Madrid (Plaza Mayor, 27).

The Percossi Papi atelier pays homage to the Supreme Poet by telling, through precious jewels and artistic objects, the story of Alighieri’s journey in The Divine Comedy. Charon, the Minotaur and the Erinias introduce the Inferno in disturbing and rich forms. In Purgatory, envy, anger and greed represent the most dreaded deadly sins, while Paradise is resplendent with jewels, miniatures and light.

Artistic installations and precious creations, both ancient and contemporary, are intended to underline the absolute timeliness of this literary work. “Dante’s imagination is visual” wrote Thomas Stearns Eliot, and Diego Percossi Papi has managed to visualise and materialise the writer’s imagination with great skill, creating, with his art, a fascinating dialogue between jewellery and literature. The pieces, installations and photographic elements interpret in their own way the events, the protagonists and the metaphors described by Dante in the work. More information about the exhibition can be found here.
