The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will allocate 484,000 euros this year to subsidise activities for the dissemination, promotion and protection of human rights in the world.
According to a resolution of the State Secretariat for Foreign Affairs, published last Thursday in the Official State Gazette, the aim of the subsidies is to “contribute to the development, improvement of knowledge and strengthening of human rights”, through national or international projects that are of interest to Spain.
The resolution states that the 484,000 euros will be distributed among different applicants and the grants will not exceed 20,000 euros per project. The grants may be awarded to legally constituted, non-profit private entities based in Spain, which have previous accredited experience in human rights activities or whose objectives are the dissemination, promotion or protection of human rights.
When awarding grants, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will give preference – according to the resolution – to projects that have a bearing on one of the following areas: Combating the death penalty; combating racism, xenophobia and related intolerance; rights of persons with disabilities; business and human rights; economic, social and cultural rights; human rights to drinking water and sanitation; human rights defenders; non-discrimination on grounds of gender, sexual orientation and gender identity; children’s rights; rights of victims of terrorism; human trafficking; information technologies, artificial intelligence and human rights.
