The Han-ul Gallery of the Centro Cultural Coreano in Madrid opens tomorrow Thursday at 19.30 the exhibition Blue Mountain, by the photographer Lim Chae Wook. The exhibition will be open to the public until 26 May. Admission is free.
The exhibition Blue Mountain presents Korea’s characteristic mountain landscape. Layers of indigo-tinted mountain peaks and ridges of Korea’s mountains parade before the viewer’s eyes. Lim Chae Wook captures the majesty of Blue Mountain’s indigo ridge and the delicacy rendered on Hanji paper (traditional Korean paper), which is notable among its many properties for its great durability, being able to withstand more than a thousand years.
With a degree in oriental painting, Lim Chae Wook began his artistic career in the field of photography. In the mountains where he was born and grew up in his hometown, he naturally found his identity and the focus of what would become his work. For the past 10 years, he has released his work focusing on Korea’s mountain landscape through photographs and prints on Hanji paper.
In line with the recent trend of growing global interest in Hanji paper, a new horizon opens up for Lim’s extraordinary artistic world, from three-dimensional works made from hand-crinkled photographs printed on Hanji paper (called crumpled landscape painting), to fusion works with intelligent lighting that responds to the sound of the audience.
