The United States Navy has awarded the Spanish group ACS -through a joint venture led by its subsidiary Dragados- a contract worth 2,839.8 million dollars (2,669 million euros) for the execution of the Dry Dock 3 Replacement Project at Joint Base Pearl Harbor (Hawaii), according to Efe.
The contract includes some optional items, which if executed would increase the budget to 3,417 million dollars (3,211.4 million euros), according to the company.
Dragados has been working closely with the US Navy since 2021, through a collaboration contract for the development of construction methods and technical innovations for the project.
This same team has now been selected for the construction of this dry dock, which will be used for the maintenance of nuclear submarines.
ACS explained that this project represents the first major construction contract to be awarded as part of an $8 billion programme for naval shipyard improvement works in Hawaii and Washington State, in which Dragados will continue to participate as one of the five teams selected by the US Navy.
The group headed by Florentino Pérez highlighted that this award reinforces its commitment to US federal government projects, diversifies its portfolio of large projects in North America and strengthens its worldwide experience in the execution of large and complex maritime infrastructures.
