The Diplomat
The Swedish Ambassador to Spain, Teppo Tauriainen, received at his residence the participants in the 6th Specialisation Course in Diplomacy and International Relations for members of the Madrid Press Association (APM), which took place at the Diplomatic School.
The participants in the course, who were accompanied by the director of the Diplomatic School, Santiago Miralles, and by the spokesperson of the APM Board of Directors, Luis Ayllón, had the opportunity to hear from the ambassador and other members of the diplomatic representation how a foreign embassy works in our country.
Teppo Tauriainen and his collaborators also explained to the journalists the tasks they carry out in the Embassy to promote political, economic and cultural relations between Sweden and Spain, as well as the mechanisms they use to establish contacts with the different sectors of Spanish society and to be able to provide their government with adequate information on what is happening in our country.
The ambassador also explained the priorities of the rotating Presidency of the European Union, which Sweden holds during the first half of this year and which has set objectives in the areas of internal and external security of the EU, competitiveness, ecological and energy transition and the defence of democratic values and the rule of law.
Tepp Tauriainen also answered questions from the course participants on the state of relations with Turkey in an attempt to unblock Sweden’s and Finland’s membership of the Atlantic Alliance, requested by these two countries following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
