On 9 and 10 March at 8 p.m., the Centro Cultural Coreano, in collaboration with the National Dance Company (Artistic Director: Joaquín De Luz), presents the ballet work Chum at the Teatro Fernando de Rojas, Círculo de Bellas Artes (Calle Alcalá, 42).
This show is a creation of the Korean dancer and soloist of the CND, YaeGee Park, and is part of the programme organised by the CND: “Talleres Coreográficos CND”, a training project for dancers to acquire the necessary tools to be able to produce their own choreographies.
YaeGee Park is a graduate of the National Institute for Artistic Talents of Korea, a graduate of the Dance School of the Korea National University of Arts, and is currently the soloist dancer of the National Dance Company of Spain. The artist has performed the main characters in different works, and on this occasion she presents her first choreography in Madrid.
The work Chum is a neoclassical ballet piece in which eight dancers dressed in hanbok-inspired garments, traditional Korean clothing, perform a mise-en-scène in which numerous elements of Korean culture are involved and reflect the deep feeling of the Korean soul. Some of the costumes that can be seen are gat, the Korean male hat, the traditional fan or the cheongsachorong (traditional Korean lantern). This choreography is held within the framework of Chumdanza, a contemporary Korean dance festival organised by the Centro Cultural Coreano in Spain, which aims to promote Korean dance works in Spain.
